SUMMARY:SENDATE Kick-Off Event in Berlin
DESCRIPTION:New flagship project for secure networking of data centres in Europe\nToday\, large data centres are the most important control points of the Internet. They have a huge computing power and are located far away from the customer. This leads to low flexibility\, high traffic in the network\, long delays and security concerns. The consequence is that more convergence of telecommunication networks and IT is needed\, and data centres must be located closer to the customers. The goal of the 3 year CELTIC-NEXT project SENDATE is to pave the way to this new network topology through delocalised and securely connected date centres. \nThe kick-off event of this important European flagship project took place in Berlin on 17 October 2016. Participants included high level representatives from industry and public funding organisations. The participants discussed how SENDATE will contribute to achieving the important goal of more secure data centres in Europe. \nThe project consortium also presented their ambitions and show how European data centres will be connected through enhanced transport networks and improved networking concepts that will results in reinforced overall security. This project is seen as the European answer for better control of data flows and new security concepts in the internet. \nSENDATE\, Secure Networking for a Data Centre Cloud in Europe\, is a 70 million euro public-private partnership project comprising 93 companies\, research organisations\, and universities from Germany\, France\, Finland\, Norway and Sweden. The project runs from April 2016 to May 2019 under CELTIC-NEXT\, the EUREKA Cluster for a Smart Connected World\, and is partly publicly funded by the research ministries/ agencies BMBF (Germany)\, DGE (France)\, TEKES (Finland)\, and VINNOVA (Sweden). \nPresentations:\nSENDATE Kick Off Event in Berlin \nWelcome Session PAs:\nTekes Finland\, Raine Hermans\nVINNOVA Sweden\, Jon Simonsson \nPresentations of SENDATE sub-projects:\nSENDATE-TANDEM and SENDATE-PLANETS\, Sigurd Schuster\, NOKIA\nSENDATE-Secure DCI\, Dr. Jörg-Peter Elber\, ADVA\nSENDATE-FICUS\, Bernd Sommerkorn-Krombholz\, Coriant\nSENDATE-EXTEND\, Adj.
