The 5G Infrastructure will deliver solutions, architectures, technologies and standards for the ubiquitous 5G communication infrastructures of the next decade.
The following parameters are indicative new network characteristics to be achieved at an operational level: 1000 times higher mobile data volume per geographical area, 10 to 100 times more connected devices, 10 times to 100 times higher typical user data rate, End-to-End latency of < 1ms and Ubiquitous 5G access including in low density areas.
This new high-performance network need to be effectively tested to assure that 5G technology is actually offered with high quality levels. We propose to develop a 5G performance compliance testing assurance solution that calculates KPI (Key Performance Indicators) to show the real behavior of 5G network and services, with main focus on the perceived multimedia quality over 5G scenarios i.e. the Quality of Experience (QoE).
The project will develop automated processes, tools and mechanisms ensuring 5G service quality, based on data processing and analytics approaches. In addition, Mobile roaming QoE and QoS is a challenge for 5G, in terms of data rate and latency, because roaming data is routed via the home network, through international carriers. The KPIs measured in the proposed project will reflect the roaming requirements as well. Roaming is significant for the EU, which perceives the EU countries as a one roaming region, and therefore imposes the “roam like home” 2017 regulation over mobile operators. Another challenge for 5G mobile communication systems is security. 5G systems will deliver a large range of services covering vertical domains and different markets. The successful commercialization of these services is based on the security, privacy, resiliency and availability they will insure across multiple domains. One of the main objectives of 5G PERFECTA project will be to provide concrete solutions to security, privacy and availability issues. For resiliency and availability, we propose a new solution based on attack tolerance techniques. We aim to develop attacks tolerance approaches that show that by increasing the number of components, the system increases its resistance to threats and accidents, as requested by the definition of graceful degradation specifications.
