Project TrustMedCloud

The TrustMedCloud project is a response to the growing need of hospitals and healthcare centres concerning secure recording and storing of medical videos. Recording of videos becomes a must for documenting medical procedures, for remote consultation and for telemedical treatment. In many European countries telemedical procedures are becoming recognized as valid treatment solutions by national healthcare legislations. For legal reasons, such sessions as well as on-site medical procedures need to be recorded, as there is a general trend to increase transparency when it comes to medical treatment, and thus to increase the quality of services provided to the patient. Medical errors do happen, but sometimes a dissatisfied patient decides to litigate even when no mistake had been made. Hospitals need to have a way to prove that no error had been made. Furthermore, countries are preparing laws to make it obligatory for hospitals to record all treatment procedures. Upcoming law changes will qualify such recordings as medical data, enforcing hospitals to store it for a period of tens of years. Taking this into account, hospitals and healthcare centres in Europe will soon need to implement recording of treatment. However, most of them are not ready to introduce such a service, as they don’t have the necessary recording devices, they are overwhelmed with the infrastructure needs of storing thousands of hours of recordings per year and cannot guarantee the needed security of the repositories. The project proposes to develop an end-to-end solution for hospitals and healthcare centres enabling them to record medical procedures, store them in a secure cloud and provide authorized access. Recordings can be used for follow-up treatment, in medical research and education, and in legal cases. The project will create a secure cloud infrastructure in line with European and national regulations and provide solutions to be installed in hospitals and healthcare centres.
