Designing Digital Twins for Future Communication Networks
Expertise offered

Modeling & Simulation Group – Expertise Offering for CELTIC-NEXT
Overview
The Modeling and Simulation group at DLR Institute of Software technology specializes in building digital twins at conceptual and system levels to support the design, analysis, and optimization of complex space systems. Leveraging advanced Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and SysML modeling, we provide system engineers with tools such as Virtual Satellite (VirSAT) to strengthen early phase space system design.
Key Competencies

Digital Twin Development: Creation of virtual counterparts for complex systems, enabling early validation of system behavior, design alternatives, and operational scenarios.

Virtual Satellite Platform: A flexible, scalable VirSAT tool supporting system engineers in the design space systems, integrating multi-domain models and scenarios.

Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) & SysML Expertise: Comprehensive capabilities in system modeling, requirements management, and design.

Metaverse Integration & Immersive Simulation: Research and development in immersive environments, enabling collaborative system design, remote validation, and digital twin visualization in virtual and augmented spaces.

Cross-domain Collaboration: Experience in international, multi-stakeholder projects, combining expertise in ICT, aerospace, and digital systems.

Artificial Intelligence Modeling capabilities We drive researches in AI and develop solutions to integrate AI within the requirement engineering phase.

Vision & Strategic Contribution
Our research group encourages secure, trusted, and sustainable digital solutions by leveraging digital twins, immersive simulation, and virtual systems. Our work aligns with CELTIC-NEXT’s goals by:

Enabling collaborative system design in the digital space.
Supporting sustainable system engineering through testing.
Contributing to the development of immersive, metaverse-enabled tools for industrial and research communities, thus contr

Brief description of my Organisation

DLR is the Federal Republic of Germany's research centre for aeronautics and space. We conduct research and development activities in the fields of aeronautics, space, energy, transport, security and digitalisation. The DLR Institute of Software Technology focuses on research and development in software engineering technologies, and the incorporation of these technologies into DLR software projects. The Visual Computing and Engineering department works on collaborative modelling and immersive visualization of digital twins, and on interactive visualization and analysis of scientific data.
