6G Vertical: Decentralized Applications for Next-Generation Networks
This project aims to develop a unified suite of advanced vertical applications for 5G and future 6G networks, engineered to operate independently of traditional mobile network operators. Each application will address the needs of a specific industry domain and will be developed by an individual partner or a small, highly specialized team capable of delivering focused, value-added capabilities. The overarching objective is to exploit the strengths of modern wireless systems—enhanced security, ultra-low latency, massive device connectivity, and resilient architectures—to solve real operational challenges in demanding environments. Example verticals include mines and underground facilities, where private 5G/6G networks can maintain mission-critical communication during emergencies or structural failures; remote manufacturing sites relying on SatCom-backhauled 5G connectivity to enable automation, real-time monitoring, and robust data exchange; and underwater infrastructure, where 6G-grade acoustic and optical networking can support real-time sensing and autonomous maintenance of submerged assets. Additional domains of interest include smart agriculture and remote farmlands, disaster-response and post-catastrophe zones, multimodal transportation corridors across air, land, and sea, distributed energy grids and autonomous power systems, as well as Arctic, Antarctic, and high-altitude research sites that require resilient, operator-independent communication platforms.
